Local Plan 

The Local Plan is one of the foundational documents for planning.  It sets out the areas for development of housing, but also infrastructure and services.  

Council will recall that there were conversations about a revised Local Plan during 2023 and 2024.  As a result of the change of Central Government, Bath and North Est Somerset has been set a significantly higher target to housebuilding (approximately double), which has caused it to reset the process for adopting a Local Plan.

While this takes place, B&NES do not have a current a robust “5-year housing land supply”, weakening its ability to challenge developments that are seen as unsuitable.
